Save Water This Season with These Hacks

The need for fresh water isn’t currently a pressing issue, but if we choose to be negligent about the way we use it, it will become a big problem sooner than you think. As plumbers, it is our responsibility to make sure leaks and faulty equipment aren’t being wasteful in our client’s homes. As a homeowner, it is your job to get water wise and start looking for areas to save. Here are just a few that we would suggest:

Plan Out Defrosting

Tell us if you have been here before… You get back from work and the kids are hungry and ready for dinner, but the meat was never taken out of the freezer. Bummer! But forgetting this simple task can actually cost you on water and gas or electric utilities depending on the type of water heater you have. Leave yourself a note and be sure to put meat in the refrigerator the night before!

Brush in the Shower

We all stay in the shower a little longer than we should, but let’s make those last few minutes in the hot water more productive. Take your toothbrush case into the shower with you and brush before you get out! It will make better use of the water in the shower and you can keep the sink off during the morning hours.

Dry Lathering

You can save hundreds of gallons of water every month by turning off the water while you lather soap onto your hands. All you need is a few seconds to wet them and a few to rinse them. Everything in between is unnecessary.

Don’t Go Overboard

Watering your plants in the summer is important, but you need to make sure you are being efficient. Watering grass and plants in the early morning when it is still cool will allow the water to really soak and get into the roots. If you water mid day, a large percentage of that water is literally going to disappear into thin air.

Come on Twin Cities, let’s all get water wise! We the plumbers will lead the charge and we would really appreciate it if all of our amazing customers followed in our footsteps. The first order of business is making sure your plumbing fixtures are efficient and leak-free and for that, you can call Uptown Plumbing, Heating and Cooling.
