3 Simple Ways To Keep Mold Out Of Your Bathroom

How To Keep Mold Out Of The Bathroom

There are a lot of things you never want to see in your bathroom, and mold is at the top of the list. Aside from being an eyesore, mold is an extremely destructive type of fungal growth that can lead to serious health problems. Untreated, it can start to overtake a bathroom and even lead to structural damage.

To prevent mold from turning up your bathroom, follow these three simple tips.

1 – Install a Water Softener

Hard water isn’t dangerous to drink, but it can lead to mold growth. Due to its high mineral concentration, hard water builds up on walls and in pipes, creating a breeding ground for mold and other illness-causing bacteria.

A water softener can remove the harsh minerals from your plumbing system and make your life more comfortable. Aside from reducing the risk of mold, a water softener will also get rid of hard water stains, dry hair and dull clothes that have lost their color from the water.

2 – Use Ventilation

If your bathroom doesn’t have a built-in fan, invest in one as well as a dehumidifier to run after you shower. Mold thrives in warm, damp places, and many bathrooms are wet or for hours on end after you take a shower or even just wash your face. Simple and efficient, a fan and dehumidifier can keep the humidity level balanced and dry up any excess water faster.

3 – Dry Items After Showering

Your toiletries and bath items should all be toweled off after you use them and stored somewhere outside of the shower. Leaving them inside might seem like the best idea, but this only causes more moisture to stay in your bathroom for longer. Make sure that you also remove and frequently wash any body sponges or loofahs; many people forget to regularly wash them and don’t realize they contain a host of bacteria.
