6 Ways to Save Water This Summer

Have any idea how much water your family uses on a daily basis? It’s likely somewhere around 400 gallons, and the average family uses even more water during the hot summer months. When it comes to conserving water, a little bit goes a long way. See below to find out how you can cut back this season:

Saving Water Inside

  1. Be conscious when it comes to the laundry. Always match the water level to the size of the load. Smaller loads require much less water.

  2. Believe it or not, washing dark clothes in cold water saves both water and energy. It also helps your clothes keep their original color.

  3. Old washing machine on the fritz? Look for the ENERGY STAR label and be sure to compare models for efficiency while shopping for a new one.

Saving Water Outside

  1. Kids love spending time playing outside during summer recess. However, it’s important to limit the amount of time they spend playing with toys that require the constant flow of water.

  2. Have an outdoor kitchen? Check the sink for leaks each time you’re outside. A small leak can waste thousands of gallons of water each week.

  3. Washing the car? Use a hose nozzle or turn off the water while you’re not using it. Allowing it to run the whole time is a big no-no.
