When you think of a dishwasher, typically, its primary purpose is to wash
your utensils and dinner plates — but what about appliance knobs?
Yes, you read that correctly: a dishwasher can also scrub and sanitize
just about
anything, within reason. If you’re still perplexed as to what else you can
be thrown in with a load of plates, here are a few “oddities”
to keep in mind:
Dirty Appliance Knobs
Have your stove or washing machine knobs seen better days? Maybe they’re
caked in cooking oil or liquid detergent, which can make them sticky to
the touch. Instead of trying to clean them with a rag and some all-purpose
cleaner, carefully remove them and pop them in the dishwasher with your
dishes. Not only will this disinfect any germs that may be lingering on
the surface, but they’ll be as clean as if your appliance was brand new!
Your Favorite Comb
Sometimes, if you happen to use a hair comb frequently, it can get rather
dingey and become something you might not want to run through your mane.
From globs of hair gel to spritzes of hair spray, your favorite comb will
become a magnet for germs and dirt (which will find their way to your
scalp). Just like appliance knobs, toss that comb in your dishwasher,
and it becomes the most sanitary hair tool around!
Kids’ Toys
Whether you have a toddler or an infant, toys are typically dropped on
the ground — which (you guessed it) makes them not so germ-free
anymore. If you’re worried that your little one will touch their
eyes or mouth while handling the toy, it’s best to place those plastic
toys in the dishwasher. Between the hot water and soap, after the cycle
is over, just let the toys dry and they’ll be cleaner than ever!
