“Get ready folks, it’s going to be a scorcher for the next
couple of days.” Don’t you hate it when you hear the meteorologist
say those words during his or her segment on the news? Well, we all know
how hot it can get in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas during the
summer, but there’s no need to panic. There are plenty of fun indoor
activities you can take advantage of while relaxing in the cool comfort
of your own home.
Indoor Picnic: who said a picnic needed to be outside in the grass? Why not throw a family
picnic in the living room? Have your children help you make their favorite
sandwiches, gather a few refreshing drinks and set up a blanket on the
living room floor.
Board Games: when it’s too hot to play outside, take the fun indoors! A heatwave
is the perfect time to start a game of Monopoly or Clue or you can break
out a deck of cards!
Lemonade Stand: typically, a stand outside on the curb or in the driveway is what comes
to mind when you think of a lemonade stand, but just like the picnic idea,
why not bring it inside? Invite friends and family members over to enjoy
an ice cold cup of fresh squeezed lemonade.
Makeshift Theater: whether your kids prefer to put on a puppet show or a talent show, set
up a makeshift stage and let them be the stars of the show. What a great
way to pass some time indoors!
Watch TV: have you been meaning to start that series everybody is talking about
on Netflix? Maybe you’ve wanted to have a family movie night, but
couldn’t find the time! Well, since it’s too hot to go outside,
now is as good a time as any!
DIY Projects: when the outdoor heat becomes unbearable, the time could be just right
to get some of those indoor projects finished, or maybe start new ones.
Just remember, the key to beating the heat this summer with a properly
functioning air conditioning system. They should be serviced annually
and maintained at least once a month to ensure proper operation during
the hot summer weather.
