Stay Warm While Saving Money on Your Heating Bills
Temperatures are dropping and it’s time to bundle up! This often means homeowners are faced with a dilemma – “should I raise the thermostat to stay warm or should I bundle up and brave the elements?” Well, we’re going to provide you with some tips below that will allow you to enjoy a warm, comfortable home all season long without digging deeper into your pockets when the energy bill arrives.
1. Set Your Programmable Thermostat
Believe it or not, programmable thermostats can be found in roughly 75% of the homes in our area, but over half of them are not programmed, or not programmed correctly.
We recommend taking some time this week to learn how to program your thermostat and set it so that it stays at a pretty consistent temperature throughout the day and night.
Of course, we recommend lowering the temperature a few degrees if you’ll be away from the house for a while and while you sleep.
2. Beef Up Insulation
Window film is a great way to keep warm inside your home and keep cool air out. It can be found at most local box stores and home improvement stores and it’s relatively inexpensive.
This is especially useful if your windows are over 30-35 years old, as there’s a good chance they’ll be leaking.
3. Close Off Air Vents
Have rooms of the house that aren’t frequently used? We suggest closing the vents in those rooms so that you don’t waste money heating an unoccupied room or area of the house.
