How to Clean A/C Filters

When was the last time you cleaned your air conditioner’s filter? Not only will keeping it clean improve the system’s efficiency, it will also increase the quality of the air you breathe inside your home. Now that cleaning the filter is on your mind, see below to find out how:

The first step is to locate the filter. Once you find it, make sure the air conditioner is turned off and then open up the components to access the filter.

Next, remove the filter(s) and inspect them for wear and tear. If you notice any rips, you should replace the filter because continuing to use it can decrease your system’s performance.

If it’s in good shape, use a vacuum to suck away dirt, dust and grime. Then sanitize the filter by using a mixture of water and vinegar. This will kill harmful bacteria and allergens that have accumulated.

After letting the filter soak for around 4 hours, rinse the filter off with clean water and allow it to dry naturally.
