Before disconnecting your old thermostat, it’s vital to turn off the service switch on the side of your furnace. Once you’ve completed this task, remove the faceplate from your thermostat and take a photo of the wire connections.
Depending on how it was installed, you may need to use a screwdriver to disconnect the base plate and remove it from the wall.
Now it’s time to attach the base plate of your smart thermostat to the wall. Screw it in using a screwdriver and then reconnect each wire to the appropriate terminal. This is where the photo of the connected wires will come in handy!
Fix the thermostat to the base plate – in most cases it will snap right in.
Then go back to the furnace and turn on the service switch.
Follow the setup instructions on the touch-screen and voila – you’re on your way to cheaper energy bills and a more energy efficient home.
Depending on the model you chose, you may need to manually set the temperature when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed for a few days until it learns your habits.
