What’s one of the most common causes of wasted water outdoors? If you guessed a leaky spigot you are correct. But that’s not the only thing you need to pay attention to when it comes to outdoor plumbing:
Check The Spigots
Even if you only have one outdoor spigot, you need to check it periodically for leaks. A slow drip from an outdoor spigot can lead to 500 gallons of wasted water per month. How can you tell? Turn the spigot off and place a newspaper or grocery bag under it. Wait an hour or two and check on it. If the bag or paper is still dry, there is no leak.
Sprinkler Systems
Installing a sprinkler system is a wonderful way to keep your lawn looking immaculate. However, if you don’t use it properly you’ll see a spike in your water bills. It’s a good idea to get a timer and make sure you turn the system off on days when it’s supposed to rain.
Outdoor Sinks
Like to cook outdoors during the summer? Have a sink to wash off your garden tools? Both of these are excellent solutions, but make sure you choose the right sink for the job. You’ll also need to check the pipes to make sure a leak hasn’t sprung.
