Plumbing Myths Debunked

Listening to amateurs about plumbing advice or tips can lead to some serious problems down the road. It’s easy for a person to hear something from a friend and then pass on the information like a game of telephone, while the message can change hundreds of times before it gets to the last person. In order to prevent this from happening we’re going to clearing up a few plumbing myths for you, so you don’t end up with a disaster on your hands.

Myth: It’s a good idea to drop lemon peels down your garbage disposal to make it smell good.
Fact: While it is true that lemon peels can make your disposal smell fresh, this can cause severe clogs in the drain. Unless you know for sure that yours is powerful enough to completely cut through the peel, we don’t recommend trying this. Instead, pour some white vinegar down there, it will have the same result without the clog!

Myth: It’s ok to put flushable wipes down the toilet.
Fact:  Even though some wipes are considered “flushable”, it’s not a good idea. WIpes don’t break down like toilet paper and can cause a lot of problems. Stick with toilet paper and your plumbing system will thank you!

Myth: Liquid drain cleaner can dissolve anything.
Fact: It can’t dissolve solids and it can also be detrimental to your pipes and drains. If you have a clog, try a natural solution instead.
