Preparing Your Plumbing for the Holidays

Between cleaning the house, preparing the food and decorating you’ve got a lot on your plate to get ready for Thanksgiving. With so much going on, it’s easy for homeowners to overlook their home’s plumbing system which also takes on added stress during the holidays. And there’s nothing worse than having an emergency arise with a house full of guests, so follow these guidelines to avoid a disaster this season:

  1. Equip your bathrooms with a plunger and extra toilet paper before your guests arrive.

  2. If you have family members staying overnight, remind them to limit shower time to 5 – 10 minutes.

  3. Washing dishes by hand? Fill the sink with warm, soapy water rather than running the faucet the whole time.

  4. Never pour gravy or sauce down the drain. They contain fats and oils that could potentially clog the pipes.

  5. Conserve water by telling your family members to turn off the faucet while brushing their teeth. There’s no need to keep it running.

We hope you have a very safe and happy Thanksgiving and remember, when you need an expert plumber in the Twin Cities, be sure to give Uptown a call!
