What Is the Lifespan of a Boiler and When Is It Time to Replace My Boiler?

The average lifespan of a
boiler is between 15 and 25 years with proper annual maintenance. A good reason
to start looking at replacing your boiler is if it is needs more and frequent
repairs. If the hot water heating system in your home is becoming less reliable,
you lose peace of mind knowing your home will be comfortable during cold
Minnesota winters.

SIGNS THAT YOUR BOILER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

A basic visual inspection can tell a lot about the condition of your boiler.
Look at the outside of the heating system. Do you see rust forming on
any of the components? Are parts showing signs of wear? If you see any
type of deterioration on the outside, you can be sure the inside is also
compromised.

Does your heating bill keep going up? There may be a problem with your
existing boiler. Or your boiler may be so old that you’ll save money by
replacing your boiler with a new, more energy efficient model.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF REPLACING AN OLD BOILER?

First and foremost you’re going to have a more reliable product.
Each year we respond to emergency “no boiler heat working”
calls. These situations create undue stress. In freezing temperatures
this can be dangerous to people as well as your home’s structure.
So just like a new car is more reliable than a 1980′s model with
high mileage, a new hot water heating system creates peace of mind. Secondly,
you’ll save energy and heating dollars. Some of the old boilers
out there are running at 60% to 70% efficiency. By upgrading you will
get 80% to 90% efficiency. A boiler running at 60% is wasting 40 cents
on every dollar you spend on heating. A boiler running at 90% efficiency
only wastes 10 cents on each heating dollar.
